Question

The search engine encountered an internal error. Please check the search engine error log for more details.

asked on May 10, 2019

Hello,

We have a customer who reached out, to us to state that internal users using Weblink, were able to log in but they were unable to search as they would get the error message in my Post Title.

In looking at the Search Engine Error Logs, I see a lot of these entries, around the time the issue occurred:

Failed to flush 'e:\lf_data\SEARCH\lfword.idx.sdw'. Error 1117: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Flush shadow file failed: e:\lf_data\SEARCH\lfword.idx.sdw

Customer restarted the Laserfiche Server Service and users were able to search within their Internal Weblink.

LFFTS is on the same server as LF Server.

Weblink is on a different server (Web Server)

This issue occurred two days ago and there have been no repeated incidents since.

Any insight, someone might have would be appreciated

Thanks,

Jeff Curtis

This happened because the full text engine could not write/make changes to that folder at some point. Usually antivirus or backup software will cause this and if they continue having issues it might make sense to add exceptions to this folder. This folder is safely excluded from backups as it can be regenerated very easily from volume and database information.

As noted, just bouncing the Laserfiche full text search service usually clears it up at least temporarily.
