Question

WebLink Download PDF From URL

asked on May 2, 2019

In WebLink 10, is there a way to download a document directly from a URL?  Tried using a URL with the information from WebLink 8 and it opens the file in Document Viewer.  The file then can be downloaded as a PDF.  Removed the check from PDF Files in View Document Options and browsed to a PDF document.  Opening the PDF will open a PDF in a new tab in the browser.  User wants to be able to click on a link and have it download the PDF file as the default.  Is there a way to do that?

To directly download a specific document as a PDF

  • Hostname is the name of the Web server hosting WebLink.
  • x specifies the dbid value of the WebLink repository configuration you want to use.
  • y specifies the ID of the desired document or folder.
  • z specifies the page number of the page you want to open.
  • searchquery is the Laserfiche search syntax.

This issue has been addressed in WebLink 10.2.

When opening a PDF using a direct URL link, the &openpdf=true parameter now correctly opens the PDF in the browser?s PDF viewer rather than the WebLink document viewer. (111759)

In WebLink 10.1, in My WebLink > View Document Options > PDF Files is not selected.  Copied URL from an existing PDF in WebLink.  Opened new tab and copied the URL.  WebLink opens the PDF file in the Laserfiche Document Viewer.  Navigating to a PDF, opening the file will open in a new tab using the web browser PDF viewer.  This was done in Chrome.

The documentation needs to be updated.  Laserfiche is working on updating it.

This is the solution we found:

Backup current Weblink\Web Files directory. Then:
1. Rename the current "docview.aspx" file to "docview10.aspx"
2. Rename "docview9.aspx" to "docview.aspx"
3. http://hostname/WebLink/DocView.aspx?id=x&dbid=x&repo=x&openpdf=true

Just to confirm, this is the same issue as Weblink (10.1) opening PDFs in the document viewer when shared by email and URL, right? We've got the doc viewer disabled for PDF but are still experiencing trouble.
