Question

Generate text on images from 3rd party software

asked on May 1, 2019

Hello,

We have a customer using a 3rd party imaging software (PsiGen) to read the text on images and fill out metadata. The software uses a repository user to authenticate into Laserfiche, and that user is configured within Laserfiche to generate text on new documents. However, when the documents come into Laserfiche, there is no text being generated. Do the settings found at Tools->Options->New Documents not apply to documents brought into Laserfiche in this way or is there something else I may be missing?

Thanks!

The user setting merely indicates that user's preference.  Whether OCR or text extraction is actually performed upon import is up to the application that does the import.  Remember that OCR is a client-side operation.

Hence, it would be a good idea to look at something like DCC to do OCR on the back-end.

Got it. We've since set up DCC to handle OCR of these documents.

Thanks!

I'd like to clarify a couple of things. Are you using the third party software to fill out template fields, or are you trying to generate OCR text, or both?

Both, but we're only having issues generating searchable text. PsiGen fills out template fields without issues, but for some reason, the documents aren't being OCR'd when they come into Laserfiche, even though the repository user being used by PsiGen is configured to OCR new documents.

Does that make sense?
