Question

Update Word Document with Table so Table Header Repeats on each page

asked on April 16, 2019

I am using the "Update Word Document" activity to build a Word Document which includes a table, which may be several pages long.  In Word I have designated the first line as a header to be repeated on each page.  However, this header does not repeat in the output document.

The LF Invoice example puts the table header in the Word header and that repeats on each page.  However, we would prefer that only the Table Header repeat on  each page after the first one.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions on how to do this.

Try going into your Word document, click on the table and in the Layout tab, click "repeat header row". Save the Word document, replace the sample you were using in Workflow with this new one and regenerate your fields in the "Table merge" dialog.

Thank you for the reply.  However, this did not work.

We have addressed the problem using the "Different First Page" Option in Word when editing the first Page Header.  Then we put our text (Document Heading through the Table Header) in the first Word  Page Header and created a second page with just the Table Header in the Word Header.  Although this requires some tweaking to look right, it works.

The only problem: There is an extra page generated at the end of the Document.  We are still mulling on this.  Best idea so far:  Just say "This Page Intentionally Left Blank."

Thank you.  One of my co-workers got it to work using "repeat header row," basically by starting a new document.  Thanks again for the follow-up.

Yeah, Word was a bit finicky there for me too. At least once I thought I clicked "repeat header row", but it ignored me. I was doing other things at the same time, so I thought maybe I did something. I unchecked it and checked it again and then it worked.
