Question

Question

modify connection string

asked on April 8, 2019

We are in the process of moving all of our Laserfiche databases to a new SQL server.  We have 2 repositories,

AuditTrail, Forms, WorkFlow and LFDS databases that need to be moved.  I know how to move the databases to the new database server, but what is not clear to me are the tasks that I need to complete to redirect the various modules to the new database location.

For forms, you would use the FormsConfig site

For workflow you would use the Workflow Configuration Manager to edit the Workflow server config

For LFS, you use the LF Admin Console and right click the Repository name and then under All Tasks, change DBMS Connection

For LFDS, open the LFDS site and go to the Settings tab and then "Modify Connection String"

Everything went smoothly with the exception of the LFDS.  When I tried to change the connection string (Server=<servername>;Database=lfdb;Integrated Security=SSPII), I received an error that database could not be found.  I verified that the service account for LFDS had dbOwner on the LFDS database, but I still couldn't make the connection.

I reverted the connection back to the original SQL connection string and connected to the database, but now none of the Windows Accounts will logon to the Laserfiche repositories.  I can logon to the Laserfiche repository with a Laserfiche account, but not Windows account.  I was able to login to the repositories before I tried to change the LFDS connection string to the the new database location.  It appears that something happened with LFDS, but I'm not sure what to do to fix it.  Any suggestions?

All except the Audit Trail will restart when changed using the configuration tool/page, and the services must be running to use their respective tools.  To make Audit Trail pick up the changes, you will need to restart it's AppPool or restart IIS.

Audit Trail stores that information in the config.xml file in the install directory.

Do I need to stop the services before modifying the strings? Will workflows continue to run? Do I need to unregister the repositories before changing the connection string?  When I change the connection string on the LFDS, will there be an issue with the license manager? It would be awesome if all I have to do is change the connection string, but I still have remaining questions.
