Trouble copying usernames in forms

posted on April 1, 2019 Show version history

Is anyone else having trouble copying usernames from the forms admin site? I can't seem to copy anything over the past few months when I need to retrieve a username.

Also any progress on why some users login with their email and some with their FQDN? It is causing mass confusion.

Our listings in the Admin page as well as Inbox and other places support control clicking and shift clicking for multi-select. This selection functionality doesn't interact nicely with highlighting text.

As a last resort, you could use Dev Tools and inspect the username which would allow you to copy it.

I have been using Dev Tools to copy them semi-successfully. It is tricky because there is a lot of copying to be done and I am not the only one doing it, so explaining the Dev Tool method to others comes across as foreign.

The reason so much copying is being done is because you can't trust AD usernames, their username can be domain\samaccount or first last@domain or email. Because of this I tell everyone to copy from the Forms Admin page now instead of Active Directory, I seem to remember never having a problem copying directly out of the browser.

Edit:

The need for an ability to select a user I would guess, after assisting with hundreds of processes, is about 25% of all forms processes across all customers. So given the popularity of this, wouldn't it make the most sense to have a lookup that self references the forms database for active accounts? The reason I normally do not do this is because I don't have control of changes to this database and an update could break this. Maybe a built in reference to accounts could be added?

With LFDS becoming available for Avante systems, we hope to move all user management to LFDS which would fix the issue of the different usernames vs emails vs AD names. As organizations move to LFDS, their user management in Forms will be greatly simplified and more uniform.

Ok, it would be really nice to have a standard for usernames, it seems there is enough confusion with passwords alone.

Not sure about the issue copying usernames, but the difference in logins is likely a difference between participant user and named user licensing for Windows accounts.

Named Users (full license) are identified by their domain account. Participant users are registered in a different way, hence the email login.

However, this only applies when using Repository Authentication for Forms. If you are using LFDS Authentication, both use their domain accounts.

We used to have the same confusion, but we switched Forms over to LFDS Authentication.

It seems impossible to highlight anyone's username anymore, as if though it is an image instead of text.

Everyone is using LDAP for participants, which I am sure allows them to authenticate with their username. LFDS is not an option in most cases.

Even if you use LDAP for participants, their username in Forms still uses their email address.
