Question

Forms session timeout with LFDS authentication

asked on March 29, 2019

https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/112608/Manage-session-timeout-in-Forms#115613

Since switching to LFDS authentication for forms I find my session sometimes ends prematurely.  Is there a fix for this?

For Forms 10.4, there's a setting in the Forms configuration page to set a timeout for LFDS. See the "Session Timeout" section here.

For Forms 10.2, you can set the timeout by modifying the Idle time-out setting for FormsAppPool.

Hello,

We have a customer on version 10.4.5.282 of Forms and authenticating via LFDS. We do not have this option checked in Forms Config but users are complaining the Forms are timing out before they can submit. Is there a default timeout in place if this isn't checked?

In 10.4 or above, the Forms Configuration in the User Authentication tab lets you set the timeout period (in minutes). You can also set whether you want to save a draft of a form automatically if the timeout occurs while a user is completing a form. Before timeout, users get pop-up notifications alerting them that their sessions are about to expire.

There are other external factors that could trigger a session time-out in Forms, such as:

  • Formsconfig > User authentication > Time out (minutes) -  The one mentioned above
  • LFDSSTS > Public computer session timeout (minutes) - affect "This is a public computer " checkbox on STS sign-in page
  • IIS Application Pool recycling settings which are discussed in this post also
  • Single-Sign Out triggered from other Laserfiche applications which also connected to the same Laserfiche Directory Server STS service
