Question

This licensing site is in a locked down state with limited functionality.

asked on March 29, 2019

Hello,

Ever since migrating from license manager to Directory server, we've been periodically seeing this message in directory server.  The only way to get the message to go away is to restart directory server.

Things we've tried:

  1)  Renewing the master license.  I can successfully renew the license, but it doesn't fix the issue.

  2)  Because this is running on a VM, we've wondered if the issue is with subtle hardware changes affecting the hardware fingerprint, but this is not the problem.

  3)  Restarting the directory server service.  This does resolve the issue, albeit temporarily.

I'm not sure where to go from here...any clues would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

The event viewer logs under Applications and Services Logs -> Laserfiche -> Directory Service -> Server should tell you why the database entered the locked down state.

Since you've renewed the license, then the hardware fingerprint is unlikely to be the cause---LFDS will renew with your current hardware fingerprint.

The behavior you are describing sounds most like what happens if your master license is in use in two locations. You mentioned that you migrated from licenses manager: if the old License Manager database is still up, it would cause this behavior --- periodically putting the Directory Server database in this state.

If you cannot resolve the issue after looking at the event viewer and double-checking that your old License Manager is no longer running, then you should contact your reseller to open a support case.

Hi Briana

How can we check if the old License Manager Database is still up?

I'm having the same issue for our install and not sure exactly how to proceed.

However, I noticed that the Host Fingerprint and Hardware Fingerprint doesn't match.

Appreciate your help in advance.

You would need to go the machine where you installed License Manager and check the list of databases.

The Host ID and the Hardware Fingerprint are two separate values, so if that's what you are referring to, it is fine that they are different.

Hi Brianna,

if the old License Manager database is still up, it would cause this behavior

This pointed me in the right direction.  The old server where license manager is installed was restarted last night, causing the license manager service to start again.  I've since disabled the license manager service so it won't happen again, and assuming you're correct about the issue we should be in the clear from here on out.

Thank you!

Greg
