How to increase speed of displaying files at satellite locations

asked on March 27, 2019

Hello Everyone,

My client is looking for ways to increase the speed that files are displayed at location that are far away from the main server. Everyone that is on the network in the same town as the LF server have no issues. However, folks that are at a location about 20 miles away are complaining about thumbnails and the actually file taking a long time to load. I know the first thing is bandwidth but I need to provide something more specific to IT to look at. I don't believe there are using VPN for this, just a typical network setup for a mid-sized organization. Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What kind of bandwidth do you have for the remote site(s)? Also, how many users are you supporting at those locations?

We have users who are more than 100 miles from our main data center and the only complaints we really had were from the sites that used to have less than 50Mbps connections and a lot of activity.

Thanks Jason,

My guy said they were upgrading to 20Mbps from 10Mbps here shortly. They have 70 users. Sounds like he needs more.

Sounds likely. I’d say to take a look at the average size of your Laserfiche documents, try to get a good estimate of how many documents they open per minute, and multiply that by the number of active users.

A color document can easily end up being several MB, and when you factor in your other network traffic it could easily over tax the current bandwidth with that many users.

If you have any network monitoring tools in place, I’d definitely check there first to see if that’s the case, and what activities are actually generating most of the network traffic.
