Question

Laserfiche Cloud -

asked on March 19, 2019

Is it possible to redact just a partial number within Laserfiche Cloud (we know it's not possible with on premise)?

i.e.  Acct #  123456789 redact to Acct# XXXXX6789   (Xs being the redaction)

Unfortunately partial word auto-annotations are currently not supported in either on-premises or cloud. An auto-annotation will always annotate the whole word on the image instead of just the part specified in the pattern.

This has to do with the fact that, for efficiency and to avoid risk of misplacing image redactions, Laserfiche only stores locations of entire words that are OCR'ed, not the locations of individual characters. Therefore, partial redactions of only certain characters in a word will result with the entire word getting redacted on the image.

If you wish to be able to easily view the last 4 account numbers, I would recommend putting those last four numbers in a metadata field. You will also find that if you look at the text pane (instead of the image itself), the last 4 numbers should be visible there too.

There isn't any difference in redaction behavior between cloud and on-prem.  That said, redactions can cover parts of words so I would think what you want is possible in both environments.  Maybe your question is more about applying redactions with a particular tool?

Hi Brian,

We are currently using Quickfields to accomplish said task and are trying to redact account numbers for our clients. The account numbers are 9 long and we are looking to redact just the first 5 numbers and leave the last 4 visible. All account numbers start with a certain format so we account for that as well.

We are currently redacting/ searching for numbers with this: (9540\d)\d{4}

However, when we do this, the annotation/redaction sees only the first 5 and no additional characters but redacts the entire account number.

Thanks

(After reading Tessa's response, I realize I was thinking about text redactions and not image redactions)

@████████ Thanks for the insight. THat's what I had found and was thinking was the case, but our third party had talked with LF said it might be supported in the newest LF version. Unfortunately our account numbers come in the form of monthly and quarterly statements from our custodian so we will be unable to format them.

Thanks again though.
