Question

Required file upload breaks size limit error message

asked on March 8, 2019

When a file upload is required, attempting to upload a file that exceeds the size limit gives only the message "Value is required." instead of the expected "File cannot be larger than nMB." unless another file has already been uploaded.

So when attempting to upload an 8MB file, I get this:

After uploading a smaller file, attempting to upload the same 8MB file throws this:

Laserfiche Forms Professional Version 10.3.1.635

Looks like a minor bug where the size error message should take precedent. You can try configuring a custom error message about file size, that may take precedent over both internal errors.

The custom error message displays if there's another file, but otherwise I still get "Value is required."

Jared,

Can we get a bug number for this one?

Oh actually, what version are you using? It looks like this was already filed and fixed in 10.4. Bug 100148

Works correctly in 10.2.1 update 4

Broken in 10.3.1 and 10.3.1 update 1

Fixed in 10.4

EDIT: Just saw you posted the version above. This bug is fixed in 10.4 already.

Hi all

Actually our server is in version 10.4.1 and presents the reported incidence in this question

If a file of more than 250 MB is loaded, it shows the alert message, however when loading a file less than 250 MB the message does not disappear.

This can be seen in the following images

Forms version

Message when uploading file more than 250 MB

Message when uploading file less than 250 MB (error message persists)

As I understand this was corrected, but I perceive that it is not so in version 10.4.1.

Do you know something about it that can help us?
Thank you

I cannot reproduce such issue that error message persists after uploading file less than 250 MB on Forms 10.4.1.164.

Can you still reproduce it stably? is there customize script in it and can you provide your process for me to reproduce?

The original issue is corrected for me in Laserfiche Forms Professional Version 10.4.1.164.

I can also confirm the new issue Harol raises above, on a test form with no js and/or css:

  • Configure an upload with a file size limit and make it required
  • Attempt to upload a file with size in excess of the limit (error displays correctly)
  • Upload a file with size within the limit (file uploads successfully, but error is still displayed)

This also works by uploading a file, deleting it, then uploading a file again. The "Value is required." message persists.

I have tried it in a previous version and it presents the same error when uploading a file of more than 250 MB and then uploading a file of less than 250 MB.

The form does not contain css or js

Please look at the following image:

If you upload files when previewing the form or on the css/javascript page, the error message may persist after uploading a file less than 250 MB.

However, if you upload files on a new submission form, the error message always goes away after uploading file less than 250 MB.

I tried Firefox/Chrome/Edge/IE11 with Build 10.4.1.172, but cannot reproduce the issue on a real submission form.

Which browser are you using? Have you upgraded Forms from previous version recently? Can you reproduce such issue on new submission page after cleaning browser cache?

There is another error message issue with File Upload fields:

If you limit the number of files that can be uploaded on a File Upload field in a collection, and you exceed that number of files on any additional collection sets you added (i.e. 2+), once you click away from the upload field, a second "File upload limit..." error will appear. When you delete uploads to get down to the maximum number, one of the error messages goes away, but the other stays and the upload button shows as an error (is red). The only way to get rid of the error is to delete that collection set. Note, this doesn't happen in the first collection set.

This occurs in 10.3.1.690 and 10.4.1.172.
