Feature Requests: Weblink

posted on February 21, 2019

Hi All, I just wanted to bring attention to these conversation that have been occuring in the past few years, but to which no solution has come up yet (if they have in 10.4, let me know):

1. Search Within Folder - Right now there is no "browse" function in Weblink. This is not at all userfriendly. I've been getting complaints for years on this.

2. Searching within an Open Doc in Weblink - Right now this doesn't seem to be working. I'm not sure if it should be or not....

Weblink will hopefully be used for frequently for us in the future, but it pales in comparison to the full clients. These are just some basics that would make a big difference for users.

In WebLink 10 there is a Browse function. See screenshot:

Hi Robyn,

For your first item, browse is general not considered as relevant for WebLink as external users wouldn't necessarily be expected to be familiar with the specifics of your internal folder structure. The general recommendation would be to create search forms that would automatically have the relevant folders for a given query already selected under the hood. Do you have an example of where users would have knowledge and use of the specific folder tree?

For the second, yup, lots of requests for it. It's on the board for the next time we're able to get a chance to update WebLink smiley

Fundamentally though, WebLink isn't intended to replace or replicate the full web client, as many of the web client's features simply aren't relevant for an external public audiance. I know some are though, like in-doc search.

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the update - you're right. Right now, we have a lot of internal staff using Weblink to find records, so they are familiar with the folder structure. We are working on onboarding all staff to the full client as we migrate their records, but it's the in-between stage that is frustrating. We could give them full licenses now, since they'll have them in the future, but that gets costly.

Glad to the search functionality is on your radar though, looking forward to it!

Cheers,

Robyn

Hi Justin,

You say that external users wouldn't necessarily be expected to be familiar with the internal folder structure. However, there is a Browse ability that lets them look through the repository folder structure outside of Search. Plus, isn't the point of the "ellipsis" folder picker button that you don't have the folder paths memorized and need to select them rather than type them in?
