Office Integration: Automatically extract text when saving documents from Microsoft Office

asked on February 21, 2019

Why would extracting text from office documents be important?  Is it for searching through office documents at the search level only?, to see the exact words in the result viewer instead of seeing context hits   Laserfiche index the documents anyway so I will get the context hits right?  I am finding specifically for excel documents if this is turned on it is generating pages and the documents produce thousands of LF pages and ultimately the document becomes corrupt.  I want to uncheck this feature if it is not necessary to turn it on.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you smiley

Hi Nadine,

Office documents will be indexed without text extracted for full-text searching, you simply won't be able to view the text in the Laserfiche Document Viewer. That's not commonly considered a major issue though, since Office text extraction is a direct stream and not something you'd have need to review or edit.

I should note that if text has already been generated for a document, I believe it will be continue to be used as the indexing source, even if the document itself has changed.
