Question

Loosing PDF (Electronic File) after Processing Through QF

asked on February 14, 2019 Show version history

Hi All

I am working on a new intake process using Email Archive, and Quickfields.

The source files I am capturing are PDF, I want them to stay PDFs - we can email the PDFs into the Email Archive, and they arrive in the LF Repo as PDF files, I then want to process them with QF to catalogue and store them in the REPO.  However I want them to stay as PDF files.  QF appears to be misbehaving on this step, I have attached screenshots of the PDF properties before, the QF settings and the file properties after QF has processed the file.  I am loosing the PDF/Electronic document.  I have tried messing around with the QF settings, and no change.

This is using QF to re-process files in the repo already (put there by the Email Archive LF tool).

Thinking this is may a bug, we are running QF 10.3.0.81

Thanks for any ideas/suggestions.

Jeff

What is it that you're trying to do with Quick Fields? I believe QF will only be able to analyze the document/page content if it is converted from PDF to TIFF pages.

We process PDFs in quick fields in many other QF jobs.

The difference seems to be to be that I am reprocessing PDF files from a folder source in our repo

In that case, what options do you have configured in the capture engine? By default it does not keep the PDF.

What are your merge settings?  Did your settings accidentally get changed?

Do your documents still have their PDF component once they're been processed by Quick Fields and are in the session before they're sent to Laserfiche?

Hi All

We are using Import Agent/Email Archive to import the PDF files via email into the REPO.

At this initial step the files are PDF files in the REPO, in a temporary folder to be processed in step 2.

See screenshot - this is the settings in the QF job, we want to keep the PDF, QF is not doing that.

Step 2 is a QF job to index and file those PDF files.  The REPO folder location is the target for QF.  On doing this the files are no longer PDF files in their "processed to" location in the REPO.  We have played with the settings, keep pdf, etc. etc and in no case is the file staying a PDF after being processed by QF. This is the "bug".

Have you double-checked the Import Agent settings? It may already be converting the PDF to TIFF and then discarding the original PDF before it even hits Quick Fields.

It is in the REPO at the "temp" folder stage as a PDF.

Attached is properties of the file in the "temp" folder, waiting for QF job to process.  ScreenshotBefore QF

After it is processed, the PDF file is gone, see after screenshot, screenshotafter QF.

Some further testing on this.

We have a QF first page rule, that looks for a barcode to identify the first document page in the PDF.  This condition is what is causing the issue - if I disable this condition the file stays as a PDF, if I leave this condition in place the file is converted to a LF file, and is no longer a PDF.

Good that I found the underlying issue, the problem now is how to solve in.
