Question

migrate sql database

asked on February 8, 2019 Show version history

We are planning to migrate our SQL server that hosts our Laserfiche databases from SQL 2008 to 2017. We plan to detach the databases and then attach and upgrade them on the new sever. The new server and SQL instance will be named the same as the old server. We are currently on Laserfiche version 10.3 build 158.

Would I need perform any steps beyond this? Also, would there be any compatibility issues with SQL 2017?

I appreciate any advice you can give.

Thanks

Hi Joe. A good place to look is the Laserfiche Server Supported Configurations page. You should be good to go with your upgrade. One thing to keep in mind, is that you'll want to remember to raise the databases compatibility level. Even though you'll be moving it to a newer version of SQL Server, the compatibility level might still be back at 2008. This won't immediately be a problem, but it looks like Laserfiche 10.5 completely drops support for 2008.

Thank you Devin. We will definitely be raising the database compatibility.
