Search Window - new limitations and weird activity

posted on January 23, 2019 Show version history

I wonder if I can get some help solving this problem in LF Client.  I have been troubleshooting a situation where I have lost the ability to:

  1. move documents in my Search results window to new folders, and
  2. rename documents in my Search results window (clarify:  by just clicking into the name).

It was suggested I try loading the 10.3.1 Update 2, which I did but see no change.  Here is what I am seeing today after the update:

Opened LF client and completed the search with whatever setting was showing when I opened the Search window:

  • First test, clicked on the bottom entry and could not change the name, clicked on a few and could not change the names
  • Second test, grabbed the bottom entry and tried to move it.  Appeared like it was going to move, but realized I should not move someone else’s doc so did not finish up.
  • Third test, tried to move another document, could not.
  • Further tests, I realized that I could not move the documents if I clicked on them first.  I could move the documents if I clicked on a different entry and then grabbed another one and moved it.
    • I clicked on DOC(8), then with the mouse I grabbed the bottom entry and slid to the side and it was going to let me drop it into a folder.
    • Then I backed out of the move (did not move it), clicked on the bottom entry to first select it, then grabbed it with the mouse and tried to move it and it would not move it.

After further testing, I discovered

  • I can move entries if I don’t click on them first;
  • I can rename if I right-click on them and choose Rename.

Also discovered this weird activity when trying to rename:

Looks like you have a metadata column in front of the document name in your column list, Ive experienced weird things when you arrange columns before the name as it seems some of the selection and renaming is based on the title/icon.

If you make the name your first column, does it help?

If you highlight an entry, and hit F2 for rename, does that work?

Does cut/paste work?

Never knew about the F2 option.  Just tried it.  Works, but... same problem.  The field to change the name in moved three columns away, even though the name field is the first in the columns.  I've kept the column headers in view so you can see them in this clip shot:

Got it, looks like your settings are corrupt. I would try the following.

1. Fully reset columns, in that search area dialog you are showing, right click on the column header and then click more at the bottom. Uncheck everything and hit Okay and close the settings. Then add columns back as needed.

2. If that does not work, delete settings from attributes, for this you will need to pull up your user account in the administration console then go to the Attributes tab. Scroll down to the XMLColumn area and remove everything to do with XMLColumnDisplay or XMLColumnProfiles Make sure you are logged out of Laserfiche before you do this.

Thanks, John.  I can now rename and move things!

I've been away from the office for a few days, but have just had another look at this.  Things were moving, but renaming was still an issue.  Then I moved the Entry ID column to the other side of the name, just in case you were right about the column being before the document name column might be causing problems.  Then I resaved the Saved Search.

I have not tried all the things you suggested, but if I have any more trouble, I will.  I have printscreen'd and printed your suggestions and will keep it nearby just in case.

Thanks again!
