Question

Quick Fields - why create new pages?

asked on January 21, 2019

Can I get Quick Fields to just name and template a document, then move it... instead of creating new pages?

I don't want quick fields to replace the document, because:

  1. It removes any links
  2. It's an extra step to delete the replaced document.

You can have a Quick Fields session push the data back to the original document, but it is unable to "Move" the original directly.  You can set it to push the data to the original and then trigger a workflow to do the move.

To push data back to the original, set the name = name and the path = path.  Then in the Document Merging tab, you define how to handle page, template, and field merging.

Normally, when I do this, I set the LF Capture engine to only retrieve the first page so I am not wasting time and Network resources sending the entire document if I don't need it.

Thanks, Bert!  That worked great.  I'll still have to name and file the darn things after, but I'm sure I can use workflow to finish up that part.

I had tried most of the things you had suggested, however, the very first part you mentioned (setting name = name and path = path) is what made this finally work!

Thanks again!
