Question

Accept barcode scan in Forms using Mobile Browsers (NOT using the App)

asked on January 16, 2019

Hi,

IS there any plan in the future to simply use a devices web browser on Laserfiche Forms to capture barcodes from the devices camera. I know it works well using the App, but there is too much confirguration required in the App for our staff. As an administrator much quicker to give a URL than go through all the install and config of the App.

Also much faster for our users to load up one specific form VS all the steps you have to take in the App. (the process of "Signing In'. . . . wait . . . I have click the menu. . . wait. . . select "Start Process". . . more waiting. . . scroll down, select Valet Job Solution. . . wait. . . now it's ready to scan).

Thanks

Grant

There are no current plans to introduce a barcode scanner as part of the forms browser app experience. The Laserfiche application is a native app and can more easily and efficiently take advantage of your mobile device's hardware.

In Forms 10.4 the experience may be a little bit better. We've introduced a way to further customize emails sent out for a user task to include a link to the task on the LF app. That way, if a user receives a task on their mobile device, they can use a link in the email to link directly to it. They'd still need to authenticate (which can now be done via fingerprint or face id), but they would go directly to their user task where they could scan barcodes.
