Question

Metadata not editable for users who have correct permissions

asked on November 30, 2018

Recent issue-- users who should have the permission to edit a metadata field are no longer able to, it shows as grey. There is no discernible pattern with the affected documents, they all have different creation dates, going back years.

check the effective right of the users:

for the greyed out documents, right click and select "access rights". Go to the effective rights tab, and "choose" the user or group experiencing the issue. This is a good way to double check it isn't a permissions issue.

Hi Robyn,

Thank you, I've checked and the user does show as having the ability to Write Metadata, meaning it is not a permissions issue. I've attached a screenshot for reference.

Hi Kendra,

The next thing to check is the field/template permissions in the Administration console. A user may have permission to write metadata at the repository folder/entry level, but the fields will be grayed out if they do not have permissions at the field/template level.

Hi Jason,

I've checked there as well, the field users should be able to edit, but can't, is showing as "Allow" for Read, Create, Edit.
