Question

How do I generate a public URL for a public Forms Process

asked on November 29, 2018

Hello, so we have a client who has a couple Forms that they would like to make available to the public.  They purchased a Forms Portal license and we installed it on a DMZ web server and then made all the recommended changes to the XML Config files for both the Portal and Internal server.  I also made both processes public and confirmed they can be started without requiring a login.

So the next step would be to create a URL that starts this process that we can embed on the clients web page but I have no clue how to do this.  I know on the Forms Config page you can change the primary URL and on the individual process page you can customize the address tag to start the process but I'm not sure how to generate a public URL in which to put in the Forms Config page.

I'm only slightly experienced with IIS and Web Servers so any direction or instructions you can provide would be very much appreciated!!!

If your public portal is http://portal/Forms and your forms server/process url is http://machine/Forms/This_Form  then you should be able to use http://portal/Forms/This_Form for the public to access the form (as long as you've made the process and access rights Public which it sounds like you've already done). Not sure if that's what you're looking for?

Once the Forms portal is properly installed and configured in the DMZ, getting/setting the public URL is easy. Go to the process you wish to make public, open up Process Options, and there should be a setting at the top to allow public submissions for that process. Once you turn this option on, the starting URL set just below that will be accessible for public submissions.

Hey Jared thanks for the response.  To clarify, i know how to set the process as public and locate the URL for that process.  But what I'm unsure of is how to make the whole server available to the public.  Because right now the forms portal URL begins with http://localhost/Forms OR http://machinename/Forms and neither of those would allow someone outside the network to access the Form.  I also know you can change the starting URL on the Forms Config page for the Portal Server but I'm just unsure what to put there....

I'm sure my question has more to do with Web Server setup and configuration than Laserfiche Forms configuration but I was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of how to set this up.
