No Certificate to Select When Enabling 'Alternate Service' in Endpoint Utility

asked on November 2, 2018 Show version history

We have a system we are working on that has STS on Forms DMZ server. When walking through the documentation and on the Directory Server Endpoint Configuration Utility enabling 'Enable alternate service' there are no certificates to select from in the corresponding drop-down list. We do have a certificate installed on the machine from a trusted authority and the Service User has permissions on the certificate. Does anyone know why it would not be showing in the dropdown?

The certificate type is SHA256.

It turns out that the certificate in IIS did not have Name or Issued By value associated with it for some reason. After issuing a new certificate it resolved the issue.

Two quick recommendations:

  1. Ensure that the certificate is in the machine certificate store, not the user store
  2. Try running the utility as an administrator (right click + Run As). We've fixed a bug in this area, but the fix may not be present on the version you are using

If neither of those works, it would be best to open a support case for more detailed troubleshooting assistance.
