Question

OCR'ing Documents

asked on October 26, 2018

Hello all,

Do you OCR everything that gets uploaded into Laserfiche? Are there document types that you do not OCR -  perhaps, maps, drawings, photos, etc.? If yes, what is your process for separating them out from the rest that does need to be OCR'd?

Thank you for any info / ideas,

Olga.

Hi Olga,

By default, any file type which has a text layer and a corresponding i-filter will be OCR'd. Obviously you cannot OCR a picture as there is no text.

A full list of Omnipage supported file types can be found here - http://omnipage.helpmax.net/en/saving-and-exporting-documents/supported-file-types/

Hope this helps!

Thank you Chris. Can you please clarify how Omnipage relates to OCR'ing Laserfiche?

Omnipage is the engine that Laserfiche uses for OCR, it's not something built by Laserfiche in house, they use Omnipage provided by a company called Nuance as their OCR engine.
