set metadata fields to read only

I am looking for a way to set certain metadata fields, or even the entire entry, to view only when an additional metadata field triggers it. Is there a way to set this up in workflow?

For example fields A, B and C are set to read only when metadata field D = "Finished"

If this isn't possible can the entry be set to read only when metadata field D = "Finished"

Hi Amanda, the metadata field security rights are set at the templates level. What you want to try is to set up a second template with the same fields but the security rights are changed to read only. When Field D is set to finish have workflow switch the template to the second template with the secure permissions, you could also take away the user rights to change the template.

On the other side, you can use workflow to change the access right of the file itself, in workflow you'll need to remove the current security and then apply the new, this also means removing and adding the users again.
