Question

iphone email to LF

asked on October 23, 2018 Show version history
Hi

When a user sends an email from iPhone to LF, the email and anything attached is converted to a Jpeg. When a user inserts the image into the body of the text the whole email is just one Jpeg.

The goal is to have the emails behave as an email sent out of outlook.

Hi David, Can I get a little more information? What steps are you taking from iPhone to save the email to your repository?

There are two ways that the user is attaching the Images with the iPhone.

1. adding the image to the body of the email. (only one jpeg)

2. Attaching the email. (two jpeg's)

This will happen when users respond to the request using the iPhone with the native iPhone mail client or the Outlook mobile app. When we tested with an android device this was not the cause the system acted exactly as it should and produced an email file and a jpeg file, unlike the iPhone.

Thanks David. How are the emails being sent to Laserfiche before they are attached?

How ever iSO handles the attachment. There is nothing special with attaching the file. The user just replies to the email request from Laserfiche, requesting a document like a jpeg. Users are doing either of the above mentioned cases Insert or attaching.

Hi David,

Sorry for the inconvenience but we are having difficulty recreate this issue. We tried importing non-jpeg images from email attachment into repository via LF app and the file type remains the original one. Can you contact your VAR to open a case with all the version information for mobile server and application so we can better troubleshoot for this issue?

Best,

Natalie

Hi

We are not using the Laserfiche app and is not configured at this time either, nor has it been mentioned when describing the issue with the iPhone email client.

See attached email examples, when it arrives in the Laserfiche console.

Sorry, it's still a little unclear to me how exactly your process works.  From what I understand the user is replying to the email and not directly placing the document in the repository themselves, right?  What I'm not sure about is how the import process works - is the user replying to an email from Laserfiche Forms, which is then what imports the email?  Or is there another piece of software monitoring that inbox?

The user is replying from an email sent from Laserfiche requesting a document, this workflow is created like the one in the link below.

https://www.laserfiche.com/solutionexchange/get-notified-of-changes-to-documents/

1. Laserfiche user sends document request to another employee.

2. Employee responds via desktop or Mobile device

3. Laserfiche receives email from Employee and notifies original Laserfiche user

Issue: If the employee user replies from the desktop everything functions normally. When an Employee uses there iPhone to attach the image the entire email becomes a JPeg.

We would like the iPhone to function like the Desktop client with the separation of attachments and email.

Right, Workflow can send emails, but it doesn't have any functionality to receive replies.  The problem sounds like it's in a non-Laserfiche component that your reseller included in your solution.

Ill take that back to Ricoh, and see what's happening.
