Links from Laserfiche no longer work

asked on September 27, 2018 Show version history

My links from Laserfiche no longer work.  Here's what I'm getting:

I've noticed this behaviour from Laserfiche Client, Workflow, and when trying to create a link to a Laserfiche folder on my desktop.

They all have this e icon on them instead of the usual L icon they used to have.

Looks like the default application for LFE files got changed. Try right-clicking one of the lfe files and selecting "Open With". Check the box that says "Always use this app to open lfe files" and find the Laserfiche client in the list of applications.

If you open regedit and go to "\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lfe" what value is in (default)?

AH!  That's what it appears to be!  Thanks, Andy!!!

Okay, so that fixed the link on the desktop.  What about for the "email document" option?  Oh, and the link on the desktop did not stay on the right setting, went back to the e icon.  And, Bert, I can't seem to find the \hkey_classes_root\.lfe you show above.

Connie what about \HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LFClient.Document

If this is there, you could try to manually add the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lfe and its (Default) value of "LFClient.Document" like it is shown in my screenshot.

Or you may want to try a repair of the installation before you manually edit the registry.

That's not bringing up anything either.  I have contacted our IT (started a support ticket) to help me find this place to change the defaults.  Thanks, Bert!

Okay, IT suggested we do a "Repair" on my LF Client to see if the emailed links from Laserfiche would be corrected.  That worked!

Bert, on my computer, in order to see what you were trying to get me to look for, my IT went to:

Control\Settings\Default Apps\Choose default apps by file type

in order to see what was set there for the .lfe links.

Turns out it was as it should be there, but the "repair" on my desktop client fixed whatever was wrong.

Hi Connie,

I know you got it resolved, but wanted to toss out some additional information. The .lfe files are in fact .xml files under the hood, so what you were opening is what those files really are. If you were to open them through a text editor like notepad, that's exactly what you would see. This is useful at times, because it means you can tweak them if you need to from the original file as described here: https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-us/userguide/default.htm#../Subsystems/client_wa/Content/ShortcutsURLs/Parameters.htm

Anyway, when the Windows Client is installed, that extension (.lfe) gets registered in your computer as 'open into the Laserfiche Client'. That's on your machine, not the files themselves. That's why you saw the issue (and resolution) that you saw, as it repaired the various settings for that.
