Question

laserfiche web client vs. desktop client

asked on September 17, 2018

We have a small group of users that have been using Laserfiche both in the web client and desktop client environment. As we roll it out to the remainder of the organization, wondering if there is any preference given to one platform over the other. Is there a reference document/site that compares the features between using one over the other? I prefer the web client but we did experience some initial issues that prevented me to work exclusively in it. That was at least a year ago.

As a company, about 2 years ago Laserfiche shifted their development priority to "Web First" development.  This means that all new feature development is being done in the web products first and then, if possible, moved to the Windows client.

So going forward, the web products will see new features before the Windows client and some new features may never make it into the Windows client.  While I do not believe the Web clients are as intuitive as the Windows client, they have made great progress in the last year and brought some functionality that the Windows client does not have, making it more useful and flexible in some cases than the traditional Windows client.

You probably should start trying to prompt your users to move to the web client sooner rather than later because the Windows client is in its twilight years and I will be surprised if they still offer it with LF 12 (2 major versions away).
