Question

MAPI could not be initialized - I say no, it asks again for the next msg file

asked on September 8, 2018 Show version history

I keep getting asked this question today during an import, I am having trouble understanding what it is even asking or exactly what MAPI is. I don't think I am interested in using this feature though, I must say No for each file. Can I check a box that says do the same for all entries, or no to all, or disable this feature?

MAPI is the Microsoft Messaging API.  MAPI is used to supply mail messaging functionality to an application.  Are the files being imported email messages?

Yes, they are Outlook files, .msg extension. I am just importing them though, along with many file types. Not sure why I need to do the MAPI thing.

To add to what Cliff posted, MAPI adds this mail messaging functionality by connecting to the default mail client application on the PC so it is dependent on having a local mail client installed.

I don't see any mail clients installed.

I have looked through all the New Document settings for anything regarding MAPI, but I don't see anyway to turn this off. It continues to prompt everytime it reaches a .msg file.

I'm getting the same error here. I'm trying to import some network folders containing .msg files and include the email metadata (To, From, Subject) if possible as the data in located on the server and moving it to a workstation only to re-import it is a pain.

I've tried the process on 3 different servers, two give the same 3506 error, the other just gives a message about no email program being installed.

Is it a requirement to have an Outlook client installed? I'm sure I have imported emails using Import Agent before (via a server without a MAPI client installed) and it has correctly mapped the email properties. I've tried installing .msg filters but no joy. The 3506 error appears regardless of whether I even have any mapping defined under Tools > Options > New Documents > Outlook.

Is this just not possible?

If your doing a large import, make sure to use LF Client 10.2.1. Not only did I receive a billion errors over these .msg files, it lost every one of them. 10.2.1 worked flawlessly.
