Hi there,

Shortcuts are tricky, because they inherit certain properties from their target entry (like metadata, image pages, thumbnails). But certain properties are unique to the shortcut (entry name).  Because of this, certain entry access rights are inherited from the target entry, but others can be set separately.

Browse is one of those rights that is set separately. This means you can set Browse on the shortcut itself, without having any impact on the target document. The opposite is true too- allowing/denying Browse on the target doesn't affect the shortcut.

So in your case, you would hide the shortcuts by removing or denying Browse on the shortcut.

Note that if a user does not posses 'read' on the source document, they cannot actually access the contents of the shortcut and they will not return in search results. They will still be able to browse to them if they have browse on the shortcut itself (As Ryan notes above, that's controlled on the shortcut itself), but Read is inherited from the source.
