Question

Workflow to parse out files

asked on August 24, 2018

Hello,

I have a file that contains about 1000 documents.  The file is being saved a tiff image.  We would like to create a workflow that would take that file parse them out to 1000 individual files, and move them into a specific folder.  I already have the folder set-up to where they will be stored.  Can anyone offer any help or an example of a workflow that I could edit for our own purposes.  I don't mind creating it from scratch :)

Thanks

Quisha

When running it through quick fields you can set it to limit each document to 1 page the same as you would for Scanning, but if you're able to do it manually Laserfiche Scanning is probably the better choice.

If you can identify which ones should be two pages, combining those ones back together afterward is probably the best option.

When you bring it into LF Scanning the interface should list each document in the left pane of the interface and you can drag one into another to combine them before storing everything.

Unfortunately, it sounds like it may be a bit tedious any way you approach it, but I think the "least" troublesome way will be LF Scanning with Universal Capture and the 1-page document limit.

Is the file already in Laserfiche, or are you pulling it in from a separate source?

Universal Capture in Laserfiche Scanning can bring in documents from external TIFF files, and under the Document Manager (right pane) you can set a 1-page limit on documents.

If you set this up and "scan" the documents into Laserfiche you can bring them in as separate 1-page document and store them to whatever folder you want; this wouldn't require any workflows at all.

However, if you're looking to automate the process a different approach is needed. Do you have Quick Fields?

Hi,

I have not put the file in LF yet, but I can.  Yes we do have QF, actually I realized after I submitted the question that QF was another option too.   I will try the LF scanning process, which seems pretty simple straight foward.  My concern is that there may be some of these document that have 2 pages instead of one.

Regarding QF , please share your thoughts on processing it through that module.

Thanks

I have done this with workflow, using a loop and Move Pages. The premise is I get the page count from the document, and then use a counter to increment until all pages are completed.

In the Move Pages task, I use the incrementing PageCounter token I created to select the page to be exported
