Question

Is there the ability to selectively limit Weblink printing and/or downloads?

asked on August 2, 2018 Show version history

Hi guys,

We're preparing for our first implementation of Weblink, which I've not worked with before or seen in action other than via some of the public sites on the Internet.  Our customer has several hundred folders in the repository, one for each user.  Each folder contains various document types, the documents being specific to the one user.  The intention is that each user will be able to log in via Weblink, only access their folder, and be able to view all the documents therein.  However, the customer doesn't want them to be able to download or print all document types contained within the folder.  The document types are specified via a metadata field in the document template.  They want to be able to control, based on document type, whether the user can print or download that document type.  Is this achievable, or is there a recommended approach to enable this level of functionality for Weblink users?

Thanks!

Mike

Print and Download/Export are user-level Feature Rights meaning they cannot be set per-document or folder. Based on my understanding, if a user can print, then that right applies to anything they are allowed to view/access.

Thanks Jason, I wondered if that might be the case.

Hi Mike,

One thing you might want to consider is to enable watermarks on WebLink. Then if the user does print or download the entry, it can be watermarked with information such as who downloaded it, and when. Not sure if that helps with your scenario, but figured I'd toss it out.

Thanks for that Justin.
