Question

Volume Decryption - Timescales

asked on July 30, 2018

Hi All,

Is there a forumla to work out roughly how long a volume will take to decrypt through the admin console? On a customers site with a fairly large volume, it just stops at 5% on V10.2.0 for hours, and the users are unable to access the documents. We need to plan this out of hours, but need to know roughly how long it will take and if it will complete over a weekend for example.

Cheers!

If you have access to the LFS machine, try using process explorer or process monitor to see if any I/O is actually happening on the volume. Hours without moving 1% sounds like it could be stuck and the operation needs to be restarted. As for timelines, volume decryption is similar in time to volume copy, almost all of the time is spent just reading and writing the files. So on relatively new hardware I would expect the operation to run between 20 and 80 MB per second.
