Question

Upload documents directly from Laserfiche to a webpage

asked on July 26, 2018

With the increased use of cloud and web based solutions there is often a need to upload documents using a web based import function, such as with OneDrive, Google Drive or other file upload functions (i.e. uploading consumer documents).

Having documents stored in Laserfiche though makes this more difficult as the file uploaders can only browse Windows folders, or allow files to be dragged and dropped from Windows folders.

We did explore WebDAV but is was too unreliable and required that all documents included an extension in the file name.

Are there any plans to change this so users can upload documents directly without having to save documents outside of Laserfiche solely for the purpose of uploading via the web? Or is this reliant on other functionality outside of Laserfiche?

For the likes of OneDrive and Google Drive, they appear as special locations which can be browsed (i.e. if I click the "Choose File" button to attach a file to this post) - it'd be nice if we could have the same functionality for Laserfiche.

Hi Nigel,

Can you provide a couple specific scenarios of how users are encountering this? It's a little unclear if you are talking about starting in external locations and trying to get the document IN to Laserfiche, or if you have the documents in Laserfiche and you are looking to get them OUT into an environment like OneDrive and Google Drive. Thanks!

Hi Justin,

This is to get documents out of Laserfiche. In addition to the OneDrive/Google Drive scenarios, users may also want to submit documents for a credit application or similar and generally these require the document to be submitted via a secure web upload.

Another example would be expense claims with Laserfiche Forms. If I use the upload button I am unable to browse/attach the related receipts which are stored in Laserfiche as I can only attach files from Windows files. Similarly using this file uploader for Answers post. This means we have to either store the documents outside of Laserfiche, and/or temporarily export them to the desktop.

It's not just web uploads - users have said they are more limited now when it comes to attaching external files to desktop applications - i.e. inserting images or files into other applications.

Hi Nigel,

Thanks for the additional information. I've heard some of these requests before - such as being able to browse into the repository from a Form. I don't have a specific suggestion at the moment, but it's helpful feedback.
