How to set Default Columns for Search Results

asked on July 25, 2018

Hi,

I am using the desktop Client 10.1.  I want to show a default column set for search results.  I have 2 searches, and I want a different set of columns for each.  I have two different sets of columns, but if I modify them and close LF, the columns don't save.

I have saved these columns to the 'Everyone' folder

I am using Templates, and I have set the "AddTemplateColumns" attribute to 'No'.   I still see many fields I don't want being added to the default search results.  Can custom search result columns be created?  If so, what else should I try?

If you are using Web Client there is an option to add a column profile to a saved search. Which means you have to create a column profile and a saved search then attach the column profile to the saved search. smiley

Very nice. Just tested and this works in the desktop client too. I think the problem she is having might be the part about existing profile attributes overriding anything you put in the "Everyone" group.

Thanks for the responses. My attributes are cleared and reset and I created column profiles for folders and searches.  I also set the columns in the Tools, Options.  Both searches have a different set of columns, neither is the column profile or Options I set.  Any ideas on where these search columns are coming from?

Ok, I get where you are saving the search columns now - in the search.  Sorry I missed that on your first reply.  This works great now.  Thanks for your help.

This is a helpful discussion!  I have a Quality Control saved-search and a Quality Control column-profile, but I have to add the column profile after each search.  How do you "attach" a column profile to a saved search?

Aha!  You have to load the search, then set the columns, THEN re-save the saved search and after testing, it held!

Thanks so much!

Hello,

I don't believe you can set different column views based on which search you run, however, you could save each set of columns as a named column profile by configuring your columns, right-clicking one of the column headers, then selecting "Load/Save Columns > Save"

Once you have saved a column profile, you can switch back and forth by selecting the name from the same menu or by looking under View > Columns > Load Columns.

The column profiles can be then be given to the Everyone group for easy access, but, the catch there is that Everyone settings are only pulled when the user account does not have existing settings so people accessing the repository for the first time would get them, but it would only apply to existing users if you wipe their attributes.

EDIT: Just tested and column settings do appear to stick with Saved Searches.

Another tip, my experience suggests that changes to your settings, like columns, save more reliably if you sign out of the repository before you close the application.
