Question

Using the "Clipboard" with Connector

asked on July 20, 2018

We have many users wanting to use Connector with various applications/across all of Windows to search based on whatever text they have on their clipboard.  An example of this is a user that gets an email requesting information on a PO:

  1. Copy PO # from email
  2. They have to open their Finance system to search
  3. Paste the PO # in to find the PO
  4. Then click Connector icon to see the corresponding docs

It'd be so much easier if Connector could access the same PO # that is on the clipboard and thus they'd:

  1. Copy the PO # from email
  2. Click their Connector button with the appropriate profile which would:
    • Open their Finance application to the appropriate PO or at least the search page and paste it in to the search for them
    • Open Laserfiche to the appropriate PO docs in Laserfiche

So for now, I just am curious if it is possible to access the clipboard data in a profile search?

Hi Beau,
While it does take one more step that the ideal process described above, you can use the preview token option as a workaround. In the XML of the Connector profile, you can delete the token value so it populates blank data only, leaving a space to paste the PO # there to launch the Finance application and Laserfiche.

Thanks,

Cosette

That's a good idea.  We've done that before for testing but not allowing the users to utilize it.  I will try it out and see what they think.  I still hope in the future there is the option to have the Connector button permanently visible (no matter the application or if they are just at their desktop) and that it can then tie into the clipboard functionality as this seems like an easy win.  Thanks for the suggestion.
