How versions of documents under version control are stored

posted on July 13, 2018

In verison 10.3.1:

Are versions of documents under version control stored as complete documents? or is Laserfiche storing the delta - change between versions?

From some testing I have done, it appears that each version is stored as it's own new document on the volume; and each document is a unique document, not dependent on any other prior version.  Also the file size for each is similar (whereas the delta file size would be very small).

Version 0:  e00\00\15\000015E0.docx
Version 1: e00\00\15\000015E1.docx
Version 2: e00\00\15\000015E2.docx

From my understanding each document is stored as a complete document, as Laserfiche allows you to download previous versions as a whole, which can even encompass change in file type, (ie: version in word, version in PDF, etc). They could not accommodate this if they only saved the change delta.

That is a good point, Steve, thank you.
