Problems deleting fields

asked on June 28, 2018 Show version history

I am trying to delete several unused fields from our LF repository using the Admin Console. Whenever I try to delete even one field at a time, it locks up the system so that users cannot do anything - move documents, assign templates, etc. It freezes up their LF clients cold. I have to reboot the server a few times and then eventually they are able to function again. We have about 3.1 to 3.2 million documents in the system, and about 75 fields. I need to know how I can delete these unused fields without taking out everyone while they're working.

This is with LF 10.2.

Hi Mark,

Can you work with your VAR to open up a support case on this? This isn't something we've encountered before.

I have emailed him and asked him to do this for you as requested.

Justin/Mark,

I've encountered the same issue. We have about 50 million documents and whenever I make a change to the fields/templates it ties up the repository database.

I always try to make the changes after hours so it doesn't impact users and there's enough time for it to make the changes before people start work the next day.

If I do it when no one is using the system it usually finishes in about an hour or two.

I always figured it was just a part of having a huge repository, but based on this response I might reach out for support on the issue.

Based on what I've seen my guess is that the locking is caused by the process that validates the fields are not being used rather than the actual removal of the field.

Just thought I would chime in since I've seen this behavior on many occasions.

My VAR is wanting to try to look at this himself before opening a ticket with Laserfiche. If deleting after hours works, then I can also try that and see what happens.

Since this is an identified issue now with 2 of us, hopefully someone can figure out a solution and let us know. I wouldn't think that this is a behavior that is desirable. I would be willing to work with someone at Laserfiche to see what is happening if we can be assured we could get things back to normal quickly when the symptoms hit that cause everyone to be frozen up.
