On the Laserfiche Client are user credentials sent encrypted?

When the username and password is passed from the client to the server for validation, are the user’s credentials sent encrypted or in clear text?

All communication between the client and server can be encrypted with SSL, and if SSL is not used then (non-Windows) credentials will be passed in clear text.
