Question

Template field security

asked on June 20, 2018

Laserfiche 10.2.1

My customer requires that one template field is made read only.  I can do this through template security.  Here I have made the Name field read only:

The template looks like this:

The Name field is now read only; all good so far.

But you will also notice that the user can no longer change the Template.  My customer has to be able to change the template.

Is this normal Laserfiche function or have I missed a setting?  Please confirm.

I can confirm that this is expected behavior.

The logic behind the system preventing template change is that changing the template discards the field values from the old template, and removing a value also qualifies as a change to that value.  Thus, if you cannot write to all of the fields in the template, you're not allowed to change the template.

As for getting it to do what your customer wants, I'm not sure.  Could they split the field or fields in question out of the template, and apply them to the entries independently?

Thanks Andrew, that confirms it.

Your suggestion about a secure field off the template is valid and works well.

Could you simply deny "Modify Field" for that particular trustee?  They wouldn't be able to change it, thus making it read only by default.

Template setting could remain with general permissions.  I did not test this, but think it would allow the template to be changed, but not the field in question.

Thanks Mary Lou, but I have found that no combination of template or field security will achieve the desired result.
