Question

Inbox Add Column

asked on June 15, 2018 Show version history

Maybe I am missing something but we simply want to add information in the columns in the Inbox in forms so the user can sort by a Contract ID.  In the process options I have added the various variables in Details.

Yet when we go to add the columns in the Inbox I don't see them.

I have tried re-publishing and resetting everything.  They just want to be able to sort their tasks based on certain variables.

Thanks,

Chris

In future versions are you looking at being able to add variable fields as inbox columns?  This would be very helpful!

Best regards,

Mike

Also, I have tested this on a few different systems and all are the same.  Is this a bug or does this not work the way I think it should?

There are a few ways to view process specific variable data in the Inbox. It looks like you've added the variable to the summary details list which will show the variable information in the right pane for the selected task. If you are looking for a way to view the variable data in bulk, you can add the variable to the task name or the instance name. It will then show in the columns for each task.

The other place you can do what you are asking here is in the Monitor section. If you open the Monitor section and choose a process, you can then add variable columns to the instance list.

So wait, there is not a way to add a variable to the columns in the Forms inbox?  The columns in the Process options only show up in details then and you cannot sort.  By adding them to the name it is just displaying it in the name.  You would then only have one sort option.  The users do not have access to the Monitor section at all.

When a user has many tasks, based about 3-4 variables on the form, they want to sort the tasks in order.  So it sounds like that is not possible?

Unfortunately that is correct, allowing variables from any process to be accessible as Inbox columns led to unacceptable performance hits that we are looking to address.

Any updates on this?  We would love this feature as most users don't have access to the Monitor tab, nor do they want to select an instance in order to see the variable in the right pane.  It would be awesome if they could sort instances in their inbox based on key variables.

I was just asked about this!

Hoping I did not make a promise I could not keep.

Any updates?

Or at least a way to make the "Monitor" tab available without giving too many permissions?

Adding my two cents...this seems like it should be a feature that is similar to picking your columns and filtering on them by process name in the Monitor.  Why not add it to the inbox so users can do the same thing?  Please add me as another requester for this feature.  Thank you.

I wanted to bump this feature request as I just had a user request this today and it is not available currently in Forms v11. The main reason for wanting to add process variables as columns in the Inbox for our users is the ability to sort them.

Bumping for visibility.  Just found out this feature is not available for end-users to display metadata columns in the inbox and have to tell them the bad news.  Most of our users don't have access to the monitor window.  Hoping for this feature to become available.
