Question

Electronic document does not show locked by a user

asked on June 6, 2018

Typically  when we open an electronic document (excel or word) it show a little lock on the document and you can see someone has it open and you can only open in read only.  I have one user that when they open these types of documents it does not display that document as locked to other users and they can then make edits and this user then looses their changes.  I have tested this on document under version control or not under version control and I can't see it locked on either type of document when this one user opens it.  I have deleted user attributes so assume I am missing something.  Any suggestions where else to look?  Thanks

I'm assuming this is the windows client (not web). Is the user opening by double clicking, or by right click->open->Edit Electronic Fiile? My first guess is that the user lacks edit rights on the document, and they are opening it as readonly.

The user is double clicking on the file to open it and the user does have full rights to the document/document location.

If this still happens when choosing "Edit Electronic File", please open a support case so we can troubleshoot.

We tested it this way also and it still does not show the document locked when she opens for editing.  If I do this process it does show it locked.  We will open a case.

Hi Gina,

Please make sure that the Office Plugin is enabled on the user. I have had something similar where the user did not have the Office Plugin running causing this issue,

Thanks

Ziad

You are correct that her Office Plugin is not enabled.  This user is on Office 2016 and from what I am finding there are some issues with the plugin for 2016 and needing to make some registry edits.  We have others on 2016 and now that we are talking with them they are also experiencing similar issues.  We will give that a try.  Thank you!
