Question

Log onto LF via Web Access- Generate a Login Cookie

asked on May 29, 2018

Hello,

I am trying to find out if it is possible for a user to log into LF via WebAccess and have a session cookie generated that would allow for the user to open a 2nd tab in the same browser session and launch LF WebAccess, and not have to log in again.

Thanks,

Jeff Curtis

Doesn't it do that by default? If you're experiencing some other behavior, I would double check the browser settings (i.e. is cookie enabled, etc).

Are you talking about logging into another web product to prevent having to re-login to another product?

In the latter case, the Laserfiche Administration Guide has a section that explains in detail how to set up SSO.

Hello Kentaro,

Thanks for your reply.

I have a couple of follow up questions, I wondering if you might know the answers to:

We just want to know how long the “Stay Signed In” box keeps the user signed in.

If I enter my credentials, check the “Stay Signed In” box, sign into Web Access, then close the browser window, I am not prompted to re-enter my credentials to log in?

How long does Web Access remember my session after completely closing Chrome?

When do I need to put in my user name and password again?

Thanks,

Jeff

You shouldn't need to re-enter your credentials even if you close the browser window as long as you were signed in before closing it. As for how long it preserves your question, I'm not entirely sure but that's a great question. You can try emailing the pre-sales team and see if they can get an answer from the development team.

The cookie remains with the browser as long as it is open, even if the tab is closed.  If the tab has been closed, there will be no activity to keep the session alive, and it will time out according to the ASP.Net session settings (default: 20 minutes).  The presence of an active session is the important factor: if a new tab is opened to the same repository and the session has not yet expired then it will be used.  If the session has been cleaned up, a new one needs to be created and this may require prompting for credentials.

The "remember me" option is somewhat different - it allows Web Access to store the user's encrypted credentials in a cookie, so that if a new session is required WA can create one without prompting the user to enter them again.  These values should be stored for 8 hours.
