Question

auto-save in the metadata pane

asked on May 22, 2018

When a user opens an image in Laserfiche, is there any way to set up an auto-save feature for the meta data pane so that if they change a value it saves without hitting the save button?

John,

If you uncheck the 'Save document' confirmation in the Reset/Prompts node of the Tools/Options menu item any changes to the metadata will automatically save when the document viewer is closed.

I do not believe there is an option for this at the moment. That kind of functionality could actually pose a problem in some cases.

For example, with Laserfiche Versioning, every saved change creates a new version of the document. If it auto-saved every time you updated a field, then you could end up with a lot of new versions and it would be harder to review/manage the document's history.

That doesn't necessarily mean the feature shouldn't exist, I just wanted to point out one of the reasons that it might not always be ideal.
