Extracting Emails From Symantic Enterprise Vault

asked on May 16, 2018

Hi All,

Has anyone had any experience in importing emails from Symantic Enterprise Vault into Laserfiche? Seems the emails are stored as stubs rather than actual emails which complicates things slightly.

Cheers!

We have a related problem, which is where users inadvertently save Symantec (formerly Veritas?) Enterprise Vault for Outlook email stubs to Laserfiche. Because they are just links to the archived emails in the users' vault, only the person who saved them to Laserfiche can open them. There doesn't seem to be any way to identify them as archive stubs. The file extension is msg whether they are normal emails or email stubs, and the MIME type also seems to be the same (either application/msoutlook or application/octet-stream for both stubs and full emails). If I could find a way of identifying stubs either in Workflow / SDK or via advanced searches, I could at least alert users to the email stubs that need action.

I'd be interested to hear if anybody has found a way of dealing with this (other than training / alerting users to the need to restore emails from the archive before saving to Laserfiche).

Hi John,

We ended up using a product called reliefjet to do this in the end.
