Question

File not saved or missing?

asked on May 14, 2018

Hi

We have an issue on hand where a file has been saved in Repository by a user; however, when the same user went back to retrieve the same file at a later time, the file did not have any changes saved since one prior save.

Below is a screenshot of the Audit Report on the file.

Any idea on what happened to the file?

How can we retrieve the file with all the changes made?

How can we prevent this ever happening again?

Thanks

When they need to work on the document, do they check it out first and then check it in when they are done making the changes?

Hi Bert

In the case on hand, the user opens files by double-clicking on the file name right from the repository.

Have them check out the document instead of just double clicking on it.  The Check Out/In process was designed exactly to handle this type of file editing.

Hi Bert,

That what we have instructed the user to do moving forward.

However, we need to figure out what had happened to the file that was saved as per user.

Hi Naveed,

Have the client check the user's TEMP Folder, I had a similar instance on an Excel document where Audit did not show anything changed on the file and it was saved back to LF without any changes, but checking the TEMP folder showed the file in question.

Thank you

Ziad

Hi Zaid,

Previously, I did find unsaved Excel files in Temp folder.  However, this time when I  checked the Temp Folder for the file I found the file but with zero bytes in size.

Thanks
