Question

Install multiple installs of WebLink on the same server via multiple directories?

asked on May 9, 2018

Hello,

Do you know if it's possible to install multiple installs of WebLink on the same server with different directories (C:\weblink, C:\Weblink2) and create different default websites under IIS where you could have "Weblink1", "Weblink2"?

We're looking for confirmation if this is possible or not.

Thanks!

WebLink has explicit support for multiple virtual directories.  If you make another virtual directory that points to the same location on disk, you can register it in the management tool and then modify its settings independent of other virtual directories.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the response!

Now, this instance of Weblink would need to communicate with many different Laserfiche servers that have different activation keys, would this still be the case then?

No, WebLink will only connect to Laserfiche servers with the same activation key.

Brian, what if you install Weblink #1 on C:\ and the Weblink #2 on D:\, each has their own virtual directories, then have each instance of Weblink pointing at a different Laserfiche Server with different activation keys. That'll work won't it?

You can't install the software twice.  The second time you run the installer it will prompt you to modify the existing installation.  There are things like registry keys that need to point to a single location and can't support multiple installations, not to mention the implications for upgrading.

Also, Public Portal (WebLink) will only connect to a LF Server that has the Public Portal licenses assigned to it.  So if you need to connect to different LF Servers, you will need to purchase multiple Public Portal licenses.

Two questions:

1) What are you trying to accomplish with pointing the same WebLink instance to multiple Servers that have different activation keys? One organization's Servers should all have the same key.

2) While Bert is correct that Public Portal licenses are per Lf Server, keep in mind that the licensing was changed relatively recently such that the 'dual public portal' is now 2 Lf SERVERS (with unlimted CPUs) not 1 Lf Server with 2 CPUs, and similarly the 'unlimited public portal' is unlimited Lf Servers.

Thanks Justin.  I was unaware of the Public Portal licensing change.  But that is definitely now a better enterprise fit!

Yup, it's a great change!
