Question

Microsoft Visio Integration

asked on May 3, 2018 Show version history

It appears that Microsoft Visio is not integrated with Laserfiche.

I opened a Visio file from Laserfiche, designed for 3.5 hrs (pressing Ctrl+S every 10 mins. or so), then Visio failed. I thought, no problem … I've been saving. Went to LF and it hadn't saved anything! Also, it was not saving anywhere on my hard drive either. Lost it all!

Anyone else ever have that problem?

My understanding is that Visio doesn't support the same kinds of integrations that the "core" Office applications do, so we are limited in what we can do.

Understand, but it behaved as if it was integrated, but it wasn't. I would have preferred to receive an error message the very first time I saved.

Can I raise this as a feature request to add the Laserfiche tab into Visio?

This was a couple of years ago now, is there any update to this feature request?

Cheers!

Any other info on this?

The visio file would be saved in your temporary directory, e.g. C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp. When closing visio the LF client should prompt you to save the document back to the repository.  If not, this is a bug, but I haven't heard of any reports of edocs being lost like this.

Yeah, only if it's set up to do so. Believe me when I say, I now have it set up to do regular backups! Thanks for your input.

I was struggling with this as well, especially as the file goes into a location that is a bit obscure when you right click and open the file for edit,  C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp, why not in subfolder in Documents\My Laserfiche Documents\Temp, but that is a not on the side,

Easiest way that I have found to edit files like Visio is: check document out, will be saved in Documents\My Laserfiche Documents, and select to open document for editing immediately, edit the file and save it, print if you want to, close Visio, then in LF select check in and tell it to remove the file from the local computer, not saying this is the best or the only way to do this but it works for me, hope this helps
