Laserfiche supporting of SQL Dynamic Data Masking

posted on April 25, 2018

Customer is looking at implementing Dynamic Data Masking that is included with SQL 2016 to protect PII information in their DB's. Can Laserfiche provide feedback on how this may impact a Laserfiche implementation,

ie:

- Would Laserfiche continue to work?
- How would this impact performance?
- Would there be configuration change required within the Laserfiche environment required to support this?
- Would there be limitations on functionalities such as search or workflow that would be utilizing the Mask fields?

Thank you for the feedback

The Laserfiche Server uses a single user to connect to SQL, so that user would have to be granted the "UNMASK' permission. If the goal is to hide PIIs from some Laserfiche users but not others, this feature will not achieve that.

Thank you Miruna, We understand that we would need to use Field security to Hide those PII fields from users that should not have access. Our greatest concern was if Laserfiche would still function normally if Data Masking was in use.

Follow up question, the LFFTS data (Text) that is retrieved from the files and stored on the drive, is it encrypted or should they be employing Drive Encryption technology to secure PII that may exist in the text layer extraction from their files.
