Feature Request:Ability to view when next sync will occur & ability to set a preset sync time.

asked on April 23, 2018

Id like to put in a feature request the ability to see when your next LFDS active directory group sync will happen. This would be helpful as we have a client with a very large AD and the sync takes several hours to complete. New users are added on a daily basis to the AD as well.

I know you can set intervals for when the syncs will happen but i don't know of a way to tell when it will actually start. It would also be nice if we had the ability to set a standard time for when we want the sync to happen as well instead of just a interval. The two features would be nice for both large and small active directory's.

I would also like to request the same feature for forms as both would be helpful when trying to set your sync schedules for a large active directory.

Forms has a user sync client which can be used with Windows Task Scheduler to control when you want to perform the synchronization (see this help page for how to configure it, duplicated below). You can disable the auto synchronization triggered by Forms itself by setting the Account synchronization Interval on the User Authentication tab of Configuration site to 0, then restart the Laserfiche Forms Routing Service to make it take effect.

Configure the User Sync Client to synchronize users on a specific schedule.

  1. Go to the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Task Scheduler.
  2. In the Task Scheduler, select Action from the main menu, and select Create Basic Task.
  3. Use the Task Scheduler to give your task a name and specify how often it will run.
  4. On the Action page, select Start a program, and click Next.
  5. Browse to the UserSyncClient.exe application located in the "<Installation folder>\Forms\bin" folder.
  6. Optional: Insert "-q" next to Add arguments to run the User Sync Client in the background. The status update interval can be altered by adding the argument -t xxx, where xxx is a number of milliseconds between 0 and 2147483647. The default polling interval is 5000 milliseconds.
  7. Next to Start in, type the directory where the User Sync Client is located. Do not include quotation marks or a trailing slash.
  8. Click Next, and then Finish.

Thanks for the information, thats really helpful for the forms sync. Is there anything like this that we can use for LFDS or is this only for forms?

A similar feature is on the roadmap for LFDS (reference ID: 85618). I've linked the feature to this post so that it will be updated when we have the feature available.

This was functionality was included in the release of LFDS around Empower earlier this year (LFDS 10.4.3, part of Laserfiche 10.4.2).

Administrators can now specify day(s) of the week and sync time for when LFDS starts AD GS.
