How LF deals with Dates which are just YEAR

asked on April 17, 2018

Hi,

How does LF deal with Dates which are just the YEAR.  Some records which are added to our repository are with MONTH and YEAR or just YEAR.

I see that I can update a field to be just the YYYY format, but it still has an input format of DD/MM/YYYY.

If just the YEAR is stored, how does a user search in LF for documents for specific YEARS?  The search fields show DD/MM/YYYY.

Thanks,

Anthony

All date fields store a complete date value.  It sounds like you are talking about a custom format, which will allow you to have dates displayed in a way that omits the day or month, but these do not have any impact on actual value of the field or how it behaves in search queries.  This is why setting the value will still prompt you to provide a full date.

If you just want to record a year, it seems like a numeric field would be a good fit for that.  You could also establish a convention that you use the first day of the period, e.g. 12/1/2018 for Dec 2018.  You could have Workflow check field updates to enforce this convention.
