Quickfields Scanning Network Help Request

asked on March 29, 2018 Show version history

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help with debugging a connection issue.

From the server, QF Scanning can connect. The url is something like.

https://myserver.co.uk:8085/quickfieldsapi

I can't connect from my laptop but I can telnet to

http://myserver.co.uk:8085/quickfieldsapi

from my latop.

I've tried disabling my the firewalls on my server and latop but no luck.

I'd appreciate some ideas on how to debug this issue.

Hi Ben,

From your serveur you wrote

and from your laptop you used this one

Could you check the "httpS" please?

Hi Oliver,

I wasn't clear in my original post, to confirm...

From the server:

Successful Connect with QF: https://myserver.co.uk:8085/quickfieldsapi

From the laptop:

Failed Connect with QF: https://myserver.co.uk:8085/quickfieldsapi

Successful Connect with Telnet: myserver.co.uk 8085

Hi Ben,

This is strange.

I have no more idea sorry. Maybe you should open a new case?

It's likely a configuration issue, not a bug so out of scope for support.

Ben, can we have a printscreen from your laptop when you try to connect to the server?

Ben, is it possible you can't connect to the server because of your server and not your laptop?

I means, do you have restriction from your server?

From your picture, the port is 8093 but from your text, the port is 8085. Can you confirm the port is really 8093 and not 8085?

I've not ruled anything out at the moment.

I reversed my server-hardening and disabled my firewall to test but it made no difference.  You'll have to take my word for that; I'm not going to spell out my hardening procedure on line ;)

I also checked with the infrastructure guy and the port is open.

Ben,

you said you checked succesfully the port 8085 (using Telnet) but from your printscreen (Quick Fields Scanning), the port is 8093. Please just confirm you used the right port for your test.

Hi Oliver,

I was playing with the port numbers. Yes, I've been using the right ports for testing.

Ben, we had this issue with QF10 on client site whereby server was fine but PCs caused issues and it was login and SQL dbase related from my memory. Is your laptop user different from server user by any chance?

Hi Fearghal,

The server is in a domain, in England, and the client is in a workgroup, in Scotland and not connected via VPN, so it's very much a different user!

Ben, I resolved via the support team and can't unfortunately, find the transcript so suggest you do same as again, from hazy memory, it was fairly quick to fix

I'd like to see that. Support directed me to the forum!

Hi Ben!

Are you using a different user account on your server vs your laptop? If so, I suspect there could be a SQL security issue as Fearghal mentioned

Otherwise, I would want to be sure of some configuration troubleshooting.

1. Can you discover the server computer from your laptop from a command prompt with "ping myserver" and "ping myserver.domain.co.uk"?

2. To be super clear, when you say "http://myserver.co.uk"  are you using the fully qualified domain name? That is, is this really "http://myserver.domain.co.uk"? And likewise if your remove .domain.co.uk, does using "http://myserver:8095/quickfieldsapi"  make a difference for Quick Fields Scanning?

Hi Peter,

The user on my laptop doesn't exist on my server. My laptop is in a workgroup and the server is in the cloud. There's no VPN.

  1. ping myserver - yes (I just added it to the hosts file). ping myserver.co.uk - yes (it's on public DNSs, such as quad-9.)
  2. Nope, no difference.

Why does Quick Fields scanning need direct access to the database server? Quick Fields. The Quick Fields Server does have direct access.

Hi Ben, thanks for making those checks. I didn't realize your server was running on public DNS. I'm less familiar with configuring this situation, but will try to come back with more info

Quick Fields scanning does not need direct access to the database server. I was mistaken to bring that up
